Sports Premium Grant (SPG) Funding

Since the London 2012 Olympics, schools have been allocated the Sports Premium 'Legacy' grant (SPG) in an attempt to raise the profile and quality of provision of school sports for all learners.

Schools must use the funding, directly from the DFE, to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport on offer. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

This means at GJS we are using the funding to:
  • Develop and add to the PE and sport activities that the school already offers
  • Build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
  • Enhance to quality of teaching of PE by class teachers across the school to ensure the children receive the best practice from qualified teachers

As a school we carry out an annual audit to identify areas to utilise the annual funding and improve the quality of provision. This year we will be providing further CPD for teaching staff; developing the current PE curriculum; providing extensive sports club opportunities for pupils and working with our secondary partners to deliver our in inclusive and competitive extra-curricular sports events.
